i hope all video game devs go on strike. not just the writers and actors.

I add my personal insight and opinion and say, yes 100% this.

We spend years on a project learning niche internal technologies, often becoming the subject expert for these features, and yet we’re let go right after a product ships so we don’t get our cut of the royalities.

We’re indirectly encouraged to work nightly overtime because we know if we present ourselves as more Essential than the others, we might get lucky and stay on the team when others are let go.

They tell us active lies saying our jobs are not at risk, to just focus on our work at hand, then surprise us the following week with a mass Zoom call telling us we’re let go. And all of our plans of surgery, moving, basic medical needs, gone in a flash. We have to constantly be prepared to uproot our lives at the whims of these companies.

We burn ourselves out because that’s the only way we can help ensure financial stability for our families. Because they know we are driven by the fans and our passion for the field and use that to wring every last hour out of us as fast as possible.

I’m sick of it, and we direly need to unionize.

Important information from someone far more qualified than I on the subject
